Cllr Linda Smith receives New Years Honour – The British Empire Medal (BEM)
The Parish Council have great pleasure in Congratulating its Chairman, Councillor Linda Smith, who has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to local government and the community in this years New Years Honours List.
Cllr Smith has represented the Chalfont Common ward for many years and has been Chairman of the Parish Council twice. Cllr Smith said: “I was very surprised, but really honoured, when I heard I was to receive this award. I have always enjoyed the work I do for the community and both councils and to be recognised for it in such an amazing way is lovely.”
Leader of Chiltern District Council, Councillor Isobel Darby and fellow Chalfont St Peter Councillor added: “This is brilliant news and well deserved – we are really pleased for her. Linda does so much for the community, quietly getting on with stuff and never one for the limelight. ”
Linda who was born in Kingsbury, North West London in 1944, moved to Chalfont St Peter in 1976. She has two daughters and three grandchildren, the latest one having been born the day Linda heard the news she had received the BEM.
She worked in the family engineering business until 2009 but now dedicates her time between her council work and family.
