VILLAGE ACTION GROUP

Your village, your voice.  Shaping the future of Chalfont St Peter

Forward by Chairman of the Steering Committee Our first Action Plan document was produced in 2003 following a public meeting in 2002 when our groups were formed. This was followed by an update in 2005 and a full Market Town Healthcheck document in 2007. Looking back to 2003 one of the actions of the Environment Group was the improvement of Church Lane and 9 years later – what an improvement! Our Groups record ambitious projects such as these which do take time to come to fruition as availability of funding is an issue. The Youth Group’s main objective in 2003 was the regeneration of the Tithe Barn Youth Club. This has been achieved with spectacular success. Since 2003 we have many new volunteers and new Groups – Change4Chalfont, River Misbourne Group, Heritage Group (Celfunde Inheritance) and the Community Library – all working to improve the facilities and appearance of the village. Successes have been achieved by their hard work and help and advice and funding from the Parish, District and County Councils who recognise the value of the work they are doing. In 2006 we outlined that perceived threats to our village would come from developers “what is going to happen to the sites of the Holy Cross Convent, Newland Park and the National Society for Epilepsy” “Will the Tesco store at Gerrards Cross be built – this could affect our local shops”. We now know the answers to these. In 2009 our Market Town Healthcheck document stated “the need to manage change and preserve our heritage has never been greater than now”. The new Localism Bill seeks to give more power to local communities. The Parish Council have set up a group to develop a Neighbourhood Plan which, when accepted and adopted, becomes a legal planning document for the future. It will not reduce the housing numbers allocated up to 2026 but it can set out where they should be built and their design. It can protect and create community facilities and open spaces. It is the Government’s plan to assist communities to shape development but not to stop it. Have a look through this document which outlines our achievements and our plans for the future. Let us know what you think. Have we missed anything? We are always ready to welcome new members so please feel free to contact any group you may wish to join. Together we are making a difference.
