STATEMENT FROM THAMES WATER ON VILLAGE CENTRE FLOODING 26TH FEBRUARY 2025.
We are aware of reports of flooding on the High Street in Chalfont St Peter and the precinct.
We are aware of the frustration this has caused the community, and we are actively working on solving the immediate flooding. We have a sent a team to the Amersham Storm tanks to mitigate the issue.
Our teams will be attending as soon as possible to investigate the cause, and tankers will be on site to pump out the excess water. We will also carry out clean ups of affected areas and will visit impacted properties and businesses over the coming days.
Flooding in the Misbourne Valley is complex and has multiple sources which contribute it. We are investigating why the village has flooded this time. We thank you for your patience and we will write to the local parish with an update on the root cause.

THAMES WATER UPDATE – 5th JULY 2024
FLOODING UPDATE – 3rd JULY 2024
The Parish Council are still working hard to ascertain what works are being undertaken by both Thames Water and Buckinghamshire Council to ensure future flooding does not happen in Chalfont St Peter.
Project Groundwater are due to have a meeting with those residents who volunteered to to be part of a future flood team on July 23rd between 6pm and 9pm, further details of this meeting will be available once received. The Parish Council have requested to be kept up to date on any activities undertaken by the Bucks Council Strategic Flood team with regards flooding within CSP, including future meetings etc.
We are aware of awful smells within the village, especially in the evening time. We have registered this with Thames Water and awaiting a response. We believe these smells are coming through from contaminated water from the River Misbourne, this river has received over 3700 hours of waste water being dumped from the balancing tanks in Amersham since January. The Parish Council has commissioned independent testing of three sites around the village to ensure we are aware of the levels of nitrates within the Misbourne, to verify its safety for residents and animals to enter. Until we have these results back please DO NOT paddle or allow animals into the River Misbourne. Our neighboring village Chalfont St Giles are having similar issues and have undertaken similar water safety testing, which will allow us to compare the contents along this stretch of the river and the potential damage caused.
If you experience any flooding related incidents either internally within your home, toilets backing up, drains smelling etc or if your garden has still not gone down due to the water levels please keep reporting this to Thames Water for action.
