Quiet Way Map

Bucks Council are introducing a range of measures to support people getting back to work, school, shopping and leisure activities as lockdown restrictions gradually ease.

As part of a £514,000 investment they are implementing a programme of ‘pop-up’ and temporary emergency active travel schemes to support people making local journeys on foot or by bike .

These schemes will be implemented before the end of September 2020, on a temporary basis. Schemes may be ‘tweaked’ following implementation in response to feedback and performance.

Over the next two months they will focus on:

  • widening and extending footways and cycleways
  • junction closures and new one-way systems that make it safer for walking and cycling
  • encouraging more journeys by bike
  • additional cycle parking

Bucks Council intends to create a temporary quietway between Chalfont St Peter High Street and Gerrard’s Cross Station. Decorative planters will be added to prevent vehicular access to the area, though residential and business access will be maintained. While these measures are in place, through traffic will be redirected via the A413, making the route safer and more attractive for walking and cycling.

Decorative planters will be situated at the following locations:

  • Lower Road – south of the junction to Chiltern Hill
  • Lower Road – south of the junction to Claydon Lane
  • Lower Road – north of the junction to South Park
  • South Park – north of junction to Oak End Way

In addition to the point closures, a temporary road closure to all traffic will be present between the existing A413 Amersham Road exit and South Park. Alternative routes are available.

Journeys by private vehicles may be marginally extended as a consequence of this temporary trial. However, in addition to supporting more trips by bike and on foot, this scheme will help make local roads quieter by redirecting longer-distance ‘rat running’ through-traffic.

Chalfont St Peter was one of six towns/villages chosen for this purpose.  The Parish Council had no prior input or knowledge of the proposed project until a recent meeting whereby we were told it was happening.

We did request Bucks delay the implementation until the Parish Council could gather public and business owner opinion but this was ignored and the project started yesterday.

The Parish Council will monitor the situation and gather comments from residents and respond accordingly to Bucks once the 3 month trial period is over.  You can provide direct feedback to Bucks Council on the following link  https://www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/parking-roads-and-transport/active-travel/
